Long, but not boring, story. Details are unimportant. However, I am looking for a place to rent near Damascus, OR (Clackamas County...SE Portland area) with room for my horse and small dog boarding business. I have owned my own company for 29 years and have an excellent clientel which would be happy to provide references for me. I have not rented in many years, but find myself needing to do so for the next several months while I find the right property to purchase. Craigslist is not much help. If anyone knows of a place with an acre or two, fenced or not, with a home, please let me know.

Love this forum! Very good information. I'm new, but will help as much as I can.

Oregon's Urban Growth Boundary laws makes properties under 1 acre near impossible to find fyi. You'll need to up your search to 5 and 10 acre parcels. But rural property in that area doesn't tend to come up rentable very often. (My childhood was spent just down the road - most of the neighbors were long term residents.)

You may have better luck finding a place to board the horse, and a separate place for yourself. I just looked on PadMapper and wasn't able to find anything with land available in Damascus, Canby/Mollala, Boring, Estacada or Sandy. I did find this property out past Gresham: 1BR/0BA Apartment - SE Lusted Rd

I can highly recommend this place for boarding based on the recommendation of a friend with horses.

Thanks. I'd prefer to be outside the Portland UGB. Boring, Estacada, Eagle Creek, etc. would be great. I need to have my horse with me, not boarded. Thanks for the info.

You think a landlord is going to rent you a place that you will install a dog boarding business in? Good luck with that. You will have enough problem finding a place that will allow one approved pet dog that the landlord gets to meet before the dog is allowed.

Allow a constant parade of unknown mystery dogs? Of who knows what temperament or breed? Maybe you could consider buying, instead.

Maybe you could speak to some commercial landlords in industrial areas. Maybe one of them would agree to allowing a kennel.

You're going to have to own.

YEP, you need to own and get a Kennel permit...good luck with that. That could take a year or so, and most likely a lawyer to fight the owners of the adjoining properties.
