It seems like just about everyone here is either from California or from Minnesota, Illinois or Wisconsin. There are some people from the Northeast and South too but it seems like the bulk come from these four states.

Most non-native Oregonians I meet are from California; I came here from Florida.

Oregon in general gets a lot of upper-midwesterners. I haven't seen data, but anecdotally I'd say Eugene feels like more Californians than upper-midwest, and Portland feels like more upper-midwest than Cali.

More anecdotally, just in the last hour I met another Minnesotan recently moved to Portland.

Yeah! Eugene is so Cali lol. Portland is more yuppie and "eastern" in character, Eugene is more laid back, jockish and extroverted for sure.

I just met a guy with Wisconsin doing the laundry which prompted this topic lol. I notice a lot of people in Oregon have relations in the upper Midwest so it's not a new thing either. I think it's largely the Scandinavian connection.

I agree from a cultural standpoint, but what jobs are they finding? Arrivals from CA often have technology backgrounds.

A year or so ago I found an interactive map of the US that showed by county move ins and move outs. I found it again, it is on the Forbes website and titled American Migration. The data is a few years old but interesting none the less. American Migration [Interactive Map] - Forbes

At my company headquartered in Portland with worldwide operations, most mgmt is from upper midwest, (IL, WI , MI, OH). A few east cost folks, few Californians.

I myself am from WI and moved here for the job.
I have not yet figured out why there are not more OR/WA folks running/working at this company. I know what was paid to relocate my household and I know what I budget annually for new hire relo. It is not cheap.
