My husband is transferring from Fremont, CA to Tualatin OR and we can not decide whether to live in Tualatin or Sherwood OR. He doesn't want more then about a 15min commute to his work, and it is really important to have great schools. A place that has tennis lessons and music lessons close by would be ideal as well.

If you want a 15 minute commute, stick with Tualatin. Sherwood can get backed up during rush hour.

Depending on exactly where your husband works (Meridian Hospital?) the SW corner of Lake Oswego or western edge of West Linn might work as well.

Tualatin is far more accessible to the rest of the Portland area from a commuting standpoint compared to Sherwood. Sherwood is a wonderful community but the transportation access to Portland metro is not good.

Traffic wise the really big problem areas of Sherwood and Tualatin are...

1. Anywhere within a mile of I-5 and Nyberg any weekday, all day. Haven't been since the new Cabela's opened a few days ago, but I avoid this whole area if at all possible except on weekends.

2. Anywhere within a half mile of Sherwood/Tualatin Rd. and Hwy 99 during rush hour. Not SO bad going north or south on 99 but VERY frustrating trying to cross from one side to the other. All the roads you used to be able to skirt around the mess are just about as bad now.

Wherever your husband works, you'll want to live where you won't need to travel through these areas. (especially at rush hours) I've been in Tualatin when it takes 15 minutes to get two blocks.

Just image how bad the traffic probably was during the grand opening.

I saw signs this weekend on I-5 stating that there was an event at exit 289(?) which is where the Cabela's is. The parking lot looked packed.

Sherwood is better, Tualitin is closer.

There are some lovely neighborhoods in Tualatin if you can find a place there. Not much on the market at the moment.

Having gone through an extensive housing search three years ago in the Southwest Corridor, I'm going to respectfully disagree with you there. But Sherwood is certainly a nice community.
