Does anyone know how long the commute is or if it's possible? I'll be working at ups on swan island (6235 basin road) and living in hillsbourough. Thanks!

It is spelled Hillsboro, and there is no MAX that goes from Hillsboro to Swan Island. You can take the Blue Line in Hillsboro to the Rose Quarter and then hop on the 85 bus that goes to Swan Island.

There are several ways to make this trip, it's worth exploring various options; results vary by time of day and timing of bus connections:

MAX Blue to City Center/Gresham --> Rose Quarter Transit Center (hard to miss, it's at the east end of the Steel Bridge and the Moda Center looms large) --> 85 bus to Swan Island --> two block walk (80 - 120 minutes depending on time of day; 85 bus is fast but runs infrequently)

MAX Blue --> NE 82nd, walk up to street level and stay at bus stop right there --> 72 bus to Swan Island (probably about 120 minutes). There is also a 72 bus to Cully/82nd, this will get you halfway to Swan Island and you'll have to deboard and wait for next Swan Island bus)

MAX Blue to Pioneer Courthouse Square South (SW 6th & Yamhill) --> MAX Yellow (to Expo) to N Killingsworth --> 72 to Swan Island (probably 120 minutes)

MAX Blue to Rose Quarter --> 35 Greeley --> transfer at Going Overpass (or further at Greeley & Killingsworth) to 72 Swan Island

The MAX ride is the longest and most time-consuming part of this trip, about 70 minutes or so depending on time of day. It actually goes reasonably fast outside of downtown. The 72 bus is THE most frequent bus in the system; during daytime it usually runs about every 10-12 minutes.

There usually is more than one way to get from A to B in Portland by transit. There's an online trip planner which is very helpful.

There is a much larger Hiilsborough County in Florida, so I would imagine most non-natives here might presume that spelling to also apply here.

Localisms are hard for transplants; I was tripped up by Puyallup and Sequim.

Haha, that is true, you can always tell who isn't a local to the Northwest by how they say Puyallup.

Thanks guys. I've been going crazy trying to find the best place to live not to far from swan island(ups) looks like no matter what I will be in traffic lol. I'd like to be outside the city, but I think the commute will just be to long. My reasonings are less traffic and cheaper apartments until I get on my feet and make more $$. Any suggestions from the pros? Lol and thank you

What type dwelling are you interested in renting? If you are single, I see a lot of rooms for rent close to the ups location. You might start with that until you find the ideal location.

I live in North Portland right near Swan Island. Why not live in North Portland rather than Hillsboro? Hillsboro is for people who have horses and chickens and that commute would be killer!

The commute would be better from Scappoose if the country feel is what he's after. Housing costs appear about the same also.
