Default Driving to Seaside

Hello,

Coming in from Washington and was wondering how much snow the US30 gets. Will be leaving Seaside for Portland using the US26. Any other routes if there is too much snow. Thought I'll ask locals for advice.

Thanks so much!

I lived in Oregon for over 40 years. I almost always took highway 30 to seaside when there was heavy snow. You can hit snow on 30, but its less of a threat than on 26. Just a few places where it can be difficult between Rainier and Astoria. I chanced 26 a few times in my 4x4 and really it was work to get to the coast. I always ended up returning on 30. Watch the temps at night especially, refreezing water is a killer on the roads in the hills. take traction devices of some sort if you have them.

ya, i think id be more worried about black ice ( or ANY ice on the road!!) then i would snow...and please, stay on the main roads, dont try taking any shortcuts.
make sure to pack a survival kit too!!!!
oh, and when along the ocean, keep in mind, its whale watching season!

good advice, carefull in the curves even in the daylight, shady spots can harbor ice from the night before, black ice is the thing to be carefull of. May loose cell reception in some areas, good luck
