I grew up in Seattle. Lived in Utah, North Carolina, Denver, and now San Diego. I move around a bunch - I guess it's just what I do - enjoy seeing new things. Considering Portland, but I know it's heading into the rainy season - and from my time in Seattle, I know what that is like for me. How much time do you spend outside? What do you do? What things are too miserable to do?

If you weren't happy in Seattle then why come here? All of the things you asked are subjective--what's miserable for one person another person has no issue with.

Why wouldn't I go outside?

Sometimes the trails are a little muddy but it's not the end of the world.

It depends on the rain, if it is a light rain or drizzle, I have no problem with doing things outside. If it is more like a storm blowing through, that is usually a good time to queue up Netflix and get caught up on a tv show or some movies.

One spring when I was between jobs and getting in shape for some summer climbing/backpacking trips, my friend and I went hiking everyday in the rain in the Gorge. You just get the Goretex on and just go for it. And these were serious downpours with wind up top--a beer and whiskey and a burger felt great after those trips...

Light rain with some tree cover is nothing though--you get sprinkles when you're in dense forests. I can take light rain with a a super lightweight rain jacket and no worries...

I go camping in the rain a lot.

It's great when you have the entire beautiful campsite pretty much to yourself because everybody is staying home because they are afraid of getting a little wet.

All you need is a good tent and a tarp or a quickshade (or an RV) and you can have a good time.

I met my husband in England where it rains a lot.
One time when we were dating and hanging out with his friend in London (I was visiting from California) we were walking around and it started to rain. I opened my umbrella and asked them why they didn't have umbrella's. They said they didn't need them. I said they're gonna get wet. They looked at me stone faced and agreed. I said "what do you do when it rains really really hard?" They looked at me puzzled and told me they stay indoors.

Shortly after a wind blew my umbrella inside out. I was done with umbrellas! Got wet!
