I should think you two will be able to pull it off. You might want to re-post this question either as a new thread or tack it on to a more appropriate one on the subject of "moving to Portland". You didn't say where you live now, that will factor into your perception of how well you can live on 50k/yr in PDX. I have found that looking around the entire Oregon section along with the Portland subsection reveals that there are many very helpful and informative souls here. You will learn as much or more from the questions posted by others as from your own. Good luck.

According the city-data, $50k/yr is about the average household income level in Portland with it being somewhat higher in some of the more expensive areas.

Would I be able to retire with a pension of about that (plus SS) if I already have a place to live and only need to pay property taxes , condo fees , utilities and all ? I think in New York , that would be hard, but how about Portland?

I Moved To Portland An Loved It. The Crime Nor The Homeless Is Not As Bad As Other Big Cities. The Transit System Is The Best There Is. Yea It Rains You Just Carry An Umbrella With You. There Is A Lot To Do There From Skiing To The Beach And All The Activities They Have Going On Downtown. Portland Is A Great Place To Live.i Have Moved Away From There And Im Sorry I Did. The Traffic Is Not As Bad As Some Other Big Cities. You Learn Other Ways To Go Around To Miss The Worse Part Of The Traffic. True The Skys Are Gray But You Bring Your Smile And That Will Make Others Smile And Then Your Skys May Be Gray On The Outside But In Side It Will Shine Bright.the Other Thing I Can Add Dont Miss The Rose Festival You Will Have A Great Time. Thank You Portland And I Miss You
