Doing research, I have not found one company that had a majority of positive views. How can so mant companies have such a poor product, service and still charge exorbitant fees?

Because they have franchises. Neither Comcast or Qwest have competitors in their market segment. If Google ever gets serious about providing internet service it will be a real cat-fight. My son says Verizon is working toward providing wi-fi hot spots for their customers.

Century Link has rotten customer service, but I've found my internet with them to be very reliable.

They all suck but you may be stuck with the one that provides the service. If you're lucky, you'll get a choice.

Comcast sucks less. We had Internet, phone and cable. After the promo year was up we were paying $180 a month. We got rid of phone and cable. We have a smart tv with netflix, hulu and amazon prime. So even with those membership fees and just the cable we save about a $100 a month. We don't care about sports so we are not losing anything.

Thanks for the advise. We are moving from Asia and I thought that we would be going to a much better standard of internet and service, but it does not appear to be the case. I am now basically doing ad Ms Christina is doing. Mhave a US proxy address to access Netflix and Hulu through a computer that is hooked up to the tv.

Ha! This exactly.

The US market for high speed internet is usually rated as deficient compared to peer countries in Europe/Asia. You'll almost certainly pay more, and get slower average download/upload speeds.
