I'm planning on moving to Portland in June and I'm looking to find a room for rent (find a roommate). My question is when should I try to secure a place? I live across the country and this will be my first move (I'm self-employed) so I'm not too sure about the standards here. Should I be trying to secure a place now? Or will people even accept me as a potential roommate since I'm not already there? I do have family in Portland and could stay there while hunting for a roommate, but I'd prefer not to burden them and I'd rather move directly into my new place.
