Folks,
Thank you all for your thoughts and ideas. We found a nice rental home in the Ash Creek Neighborhood. Nice place at the right price. Will also be able to catch the Trimet to downtown each day for work.
Looking forward to exploring Portland.

Do you mind telling how you did it? We are moving to Portland from california in the very near future. I'm finding it's almost impossible to find a place in another state. I'm finding alot of scams.

One scam is on Craigslist where they list a place for rent they don't own, require a money transfer for a deposit then disappear. I know, I know. But there are renters out there that are that stupid.

Truth. And I think maybe stupid is too harsh of a word. Naive and inexperienced maybe.

Let's be nice about it. "Trusting". Good people don't think like evil people, so they have lowered defenses.

My wife and I were VERY fortunate to come across this home via word of mouth. Otherwise I hear it is a very tough market and what I call a landlords market.

They required us to pay six months rent right off the bat when we moved back from Arizona.
