I apologize in advance if some may find this post insulting. It is certainly not the intention but to inform any potential single hetero men considering moving to the area.

Guys, the women in the Portland area are big, really big. Nearly all women are over weight. And, I would guesstimate that 2/3 are obese.

it is very unusual to see any normal women in the area. This may not apply to all age groups. However, the majority are very unhealthy. Their attire is absolutely appalling. They wear tight clothing and rolls of skin are peeking out in all openings in fabric. Cheap tattoos are considered fashionable as well as spandex.

I don't know what are the stats on this kind of information. However, I will assume it is under reported. Do not judge by observing the women who are biking, jogging, and exercising. There are always exceptions. Instead, go to the grocery store or mall to get a true sample.

If I was single, this simple truth would convince me to consider alternative cities.

You don't get out much, do you... obesity is happening everywhere.

"An analysis published in JAMA Internal Medicine on Monday found that 75 percent of men and 67 percent of women ages 25 and older are now overweight or obese. "

My yoga classes seem to attract very toned, fit and attractive women of all ages. Where do you go out? Geez... the moms at my kids' school always seem to be preparing for a marathon or done kind of athletic event. Portland sort of attracts very outdoorsy, REI lovin' people IMO.

I guess if you socialize in bars the % of pudgy body shapes would be higher than average... but that would be true of males as well.

The CDC puts Portland at:

40.3% Healthy
33.7% Overweight
26% Obese

Nationally, it's:
31.2% Healthy
33.1% Overweight
37.5% Obese

So Portland's obesity rate is actually 44% below the national average.

That's pretty much in line with what I've seen, having lived in three time zones. Portland tilts much more heavily towards people who are at healthy weights and has much lower obesity than other areas. In fact, Portland is one of the fittest cities in the nation.

It seems the OP needs to figure out where the fit people are and go there. Or maybe he can only attract fatties?

Lol, glad I wasnt the only one who notices this stuff! I see it WAY more in the suburbs though. But coming from southern California to here, I was definitely shocked at all the huge people. Also, a crap load of smokers too!
