I love to drive out to the Mount Hood area and go hiking around lakes and see waterfalls, etc. But few people I know in the Portland area have ever been there. They are either completely ignorant about it, or have absolutely no interest in visiting any of Oregon's scenic attractions.

If you are a Portland area resident, have you driven out to the Mount Hood area and if not, why not?

Really? Every person I have met in Portland, over 150 people easy, has been to Mt. Hood. You should go and enjoy real beauty, then meet new friends. Portland isn't Manhattan where you meet freaks that never leave the island. Portlanders generally enjoy the state of Oregon and its attractions. Check out The Bridge Of The Gods in The George. It's breathtaking!

Especially if you're scared of heights and worry about bridge safety...

I need the choice - "yes several times but will probably not so much in the future."
Sort of a been there done that kind of thing.

Concentrating more efforts on places we have not been.

The majority of the people I talk to have no idea what is out there other than a million trees. (They call it "the sticks.")

I sat in an old log cabin type of restaurant that overlooks the bridge and the natural beauty surrounding it. My burger was worth every penny for that view! I have a fear of heights so yeah, I didn't go to the edge of the bridge or any where near a cliff.

Of course I've been there. There's not much point in living here if you don't appreciate the natural attractions.

I do know people who haven't, though. They spend most of their time complaining about how crappy Oregon is and whining about the lack of theme parks.
