Hi, my Mom banks with Chase, who has her checking/savings as well as her IRA. She's 63, we're looking at 1 year CDs for the IRA since she needs to have absolutely no risk of principal. Chase 1 year CD rate is an incredible 0.15%. I have seen as high as 1.2% online, but she wants to have a bank that actually has a physical branch presence in Portland.

Anyone gotten any good 1 year CDs from a bank or credit union around here? Most likely scenario is buying 1 year CDs for each of the next several years until she takes the money out, but with some uncertainty about her situation, not looking at more than 1 year. Any good experiences in Portland? Thanks!

Doesn't seem off-course for the major banks. WF will give you 0.10% IF you meet certain account requirements, 0.05% on a 12 month CD otherwise.

Unitus says they offer 0.3-0.4% depending on the amount: https://www.unitusccu.com/personal/p...ates/#cd_rates
