I am currently thinking of moving from Miami to Portland.

I need advice on wether this might be a good move or not, considering cost of living, property and job market. Im really looking for a place to start anew, with my fiancee, we're both college grads in our mid 20's.

I don't know much about Miami, but the cost of living here is a bit high, but not as bad as Seattle or NYC.

The housing costs are crazy, but all the real estate drama is beginning to impact prices here. Since its just you and your fiance, perhaps a 1 or 2 bed condo will be a good start for you just to get into the market. The job market is not the greatest, but it depends on your field. As with any city, you can get a job working for the state or locality.

What other interests do you have? Portland is a great place for outdoor activities, the Oregon Coast is a 1.5 hours away, great music scene, lots of farmer's markets. If you have issues with rain/overcast skies, you might want to think hard on that point. Summers are great, but the rest of the years is mostly cloudy skies with sunbreaks every now and then. Coming from Miami, I don't want you like or are used to.

I think the main difference would be the weather (gee, no duh) and how that may change te types of activities one may enjoy. More sun & fun there, more ski & snow activities here. Aside from that I think housing, crime... are about the same.
