It is very hot from early July to late September generally. We also have Spring heat waves.

You have to understand that in Portland, when the temperature is above the 80s, people are dying in the streets. Personal thermostats are set lower in the PNW. I wear shorts pretty much all the time, except when the temperatures are in the 40s or lower.

What do you consider "very hot"? I've seen in get in the low 100's, but that's not terribly common in the NW part of the state. I lived in Vegas for long time and to me very hot was 110+.

I think we hit the low 100s once every couple of years or so, if my memory serves me. But we do get at least a few days every summer in the upper 90s.

Here's my scale, as someone born and raised on the NorCal coast and lived most of my life there and here in Oregon:

Very hot: anything at or above 95°
Hot: 85-94°
Comfortable: 70-84°
60s are funny. If it's sunny, then it's comfortable. If it's cloudy then it's cool.
Cool: 50s
Chilly: 40s
Cold: 30s and below

My hometown rarely got above 65° in the dead of summer, and often topped out in the upper 50s in August because of fog. But had pretty mild winters (40s and 50s).

Vegas is a great candidate for the unrelenting summer heat prize, but a major contender would be Redding, CA.

I consider it to be very hot in OR when the temps are in the 90's for weeks on end and there is no breeze AND it's still sunny until 10 PM. I consider that hot and yes, I lived in NYC with insane humidity but there is a reason I am back on the left coast, where I am thankfully from, and not in a swamp or a desert. And many Portlanders don't have central air so there's that.

Yeah, here in the Cleveland area it was 21 degrees today and I saw a guy wearing shorts outside. I was all bundled up with a hat, sweater and scarf and my winter coat.

I remember when we really didn't need the air conditioning. My first couple summers here I was able to wear jeans most of the time. We have warmed up here quite a bit in the last decade.

Same for me. Usually don't quite hold out in cargos through Halloween. Hoping to be in shorts, and leaving the jacket home, by April Fool's.

Unless you're from the deserts of Arizona or Death Valley of something, yeah, you can comfortably wear shorts and a t-shirt basically from late June until early September. I'm assuming you recently moved here, within the last few months, and I can assure it does get a lot better than this.

Anything above 75 is unbearably hot for me. 50s is the start of shorts weather.
