Hi guys! Same-sex couple are moving from NYC. We want to rent an apartment in Woodlawn. New building, close bus stop and Woodlayn City Park. I checked crime data sites, "walked" on Google view and now need your opinion. Thank you in advance!

I had to look up where Woodlawn is. AFAIK it's a fine neighborhood but I don't know it well.

Well, it didn't make the Portland Police's neighborhood of "top 20 burglaries by neighborhood" list, so that is something. It's included in the list, but it's not in the top 20. I might quibble with the list methodology (residential burglaries - not necessarily thefts from residences - and some of the areas are pretty small), but it is at least sort of a data point.

It’s “trying” to get better. It’s home of the Woodlawn Park Bloods so there’s that

You are from NYC. You surely have street smart radar. Go to the area at a couple of different times a day and walk around. Go into some shops and feel what the area vibrations feel like.

Call the non-emergency police phone number, give them the address of the apartments and ask what crime is in the area.

Have you tried to reach out to the local Russian community? Facebook? Church? Maybe a food or dance club of some kind?
