Default Visiting Portland

Hello,
I am visiting Portland at the end of May and I have a question. I have never seen the ocean before and I would love to while on my visit, but I won't have a car while in portland. Is there anyway to get from portland to the ocean using busses?
Thanks!

Well, you can take a tour to the coast. This is one company that does them. That'd be more expensive, but you'd see more of the coast.

Tillamook has a bus (broken link) that can get you there from Union/Greyhound station in Portland. Problem with that is, Tillamook, while has some fun tourism things, isn't a "beach."

Personally, I'd go for the tour, since you could see much more of the coast. And dip your toes in the cold Pacific.

There is Grayline tours, that go to the coast, as well as a few other places. However I know shortly after I moved here several years ago, I had family visit and this is what we were told with Grayline. We booked the tours to Mt St Helens and the Coast for two different days, we were called just before the tours left and told the tours were cancelled because they did not have enough customers. This was in August of 06, so one would think there would have been enough people for these tours with the limited summer there is here. You would probably be better off to rent a car and take your own tour. We did and it worked out better anyway.

I went to the Grayline site, and they didn't seem to have much to offer, so I'm not surprised at your experience. I think the only tour they had listed was a shopping tour to the factory outlets. But then, it's not summer. The link I provided was for a smaller company, which has been around for years, but does van tours. It doesn't take many to fill those, and the experience is more personal, and much less rushed than being on a big bus. And, they offer a coast tour.
