I need to get a new pair of eyeglasses for near-sightedness (myopia). I currently wear a black-rim glass and want something similar. I'm OK to spend several hundreds of dollars on a good pair. And I have insurance so it might cover some portion of it. I'm new to Portland and know that Portland has many good shops with an emphasis on good design. What are some good ones for eyeglasses?

I believe many people have told me Costco Eye Center is the place to go. There is one inthe Tigard store where I shop. Can you report back if you go there? I think I need to have my eyes checked soon also.

I recently visited the Costco in Tigard and purchased 2 pair of glasses as there is a discount on the 2nd pair for approx. $280. Mine were progressives and one pair is specifically for computer use. Then I went back for sunglasses. I had a very good experience with both the exam and the optometrists who helped me find and fit frames. They are very fast and efficient and have a guarantee. I think it's 60 days. I highly recommend them.

Stanton Optical, right new WS Mall, blew me away with service and I paid ZERO for two pairs of glasses with all of the options (anti-glare, Really Bad Vision but not a really thick lens, whatever they call that.)

Costco optical seems to be the very highly rated across US. They carry quite a decent range and their pricing including post sales service is unbeatable.
I wish they did rimless glasses / frames, so I could buy there .

Costco optical is VERY popular, particularly at the end of the year when people are using their health savings account. If you are buying or picking up glasses arrive when the store opens.

My co-worker actually loves Zenni (online) and said their frames are affordable (she spends about $50-$100). I know the shop near me has some nice frames (unique, standard but different, some are super expensive). I'm not sure where you're at, so not sure if it's an option as it's in Hillsboro. If it is, let me know and I'll post the place. I like their non-generic variety compared to Costco.
