So either move to a different climate, or get the supplements. My point is that not everyone is impacted by the weather. Some of us don't feel that it's gray all the time, we recognize that although statistically we get less sun than many other places, it's not gray all the time. We're not affected by the weather. Others are drastically affected and should live closer to the equator. If you can't leave, or don't want to leave try the supplements. If you want to leave, leave. Mod edit

I'm certainly not arguing otherwise. I've seen a few movies that take place in Northern Europe (Germany, France etc.) during World War II and have a scene where someone is told to take their Cod Liver oil for health reasons. It makes sense that the cold-water seafood diets of Finland, Sweden, Norway, etc. are extremely rich in Vitamin D and of course the white skin of northerners was designed to catch more of what little sunlight there was up there.

Ha ha. However, many people who read these forums actually BELIEVE that we don't see sunlight for 9 months of year. I think it's important to mention that while we don't get as much sunlight as many other places, it is NOT always gray, it is NOT always raining and some people just don't do well, while others do fine. It's one thing to say you don't like Portland because you prefer sunnier weather, it's another to exaggerate and say there is no sun for 9 months of the year.

What's the weather like in Portland today? I'm a little east of Eugene right now and there isn't a cloud in the sky.

I think the 40 days of rain the poster was referring to was in winter 05. It was my first winter in the PacNW (Seattle area) and we almost reached 30 consecutive days of rain. I remember clearly because we had the first sunbreaks in a month on Superbowl Sunday and I went hiking with a friend. I'm sure the weather in Portland doesn't differ that much from the Puget Sound area, so....that would have been winter 05.

It seems to me that many of you are really sensitive about the Portland weather. I think you should take it with the take it or leave it attitude. I live on the ugly yellow plains, and I would love to have a cloudy day more than once a month. You should take pride in being one of the few places west of the Mississippi that's actually green. If they don't like the gray winters, then they can leave, I'll come!

P.S. The next week is going to be mostly grey with some rain and a chance of sun. But yes, the last few days have been lovely.

Well as they say, one man's vitamin is another man's drug or something to that effect. I suffer from an illness for which taking vitamin D is harmful. I have to stay away from it. I think fish oil has vitamin D so I have to stay away from it.

I don't mind the overcast weather because the sun also has a negative effect on me. However this year I have had enough of rain and wouldn't mind a dry spell for a week or two. It's really difficult to say what is too much and what is not. It's really an individual thing. But I can understand how people coming from sunny states can find Portland really gloomy most of the time.
