Lightbulb I need help to find an apt in five days!

Hi everyone,

thank you in advance for reading this and hopefully answering it. I am supposed to move to Portland June 1 and am coming May 1-6, 2008 to find a place.

I am originally from NYC and am looking for a place that is green and outdoorsy. I am very nervous about the rain or cloudy days of portland. Anyway, I can afford to spend about $1100 and really need a backyard. I am 27 and want to meet people, be near a great dog park. Anyone have any suggestions? I have two cats and a dog and its been difficult to find a place that allows both.

Default Here are a few you might be interested in

Believe me, I know what you're going through. My husband and I had a hard time finding a place that would accept our dog (and he's a small dog). But we finally found a place in the Belmont/Sunnyside Dist. right near Laurelhurst Park, and we love it! It's a great area! You are in a good price range so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding something on Craig's List. Just be sure as soon as you see one come up, you jump on it fast, as they tend to get rented immediately...so you have to be able to overnight all the paperwork and money next day. I know from experience! Also include a pet resume...it really does make a difference...I leared that here on these boards and it worked for me, coming from out of town you have a bit of a disadvantage especially when a landlord can't meet your animals in person. Here are just a few I found on Craig's that you might want to check out. Oh...do you want to be in "inner" portland, or the burbs? These are all relatively close to town, so if you're interested in living out in the burbs you will want to click on Washington Co. or "All Portland" to get more choices. These are just from Multnomah Co.

I hope this gives you a start...Good luck to you & keep us posted!

I'm moving from out of town too. I looked on Craigslist, found some places that interested me, and came to Portland for a visit to check them out. If you have a laptop, bring it with you, because Craigslist moves pretty fast. You should be able to fill out an application on the spot if you find something you like. In my case, they took the app. and the money for the background check while I was there, then let me overnight the deposits after I returned home and everything was approved.

Good luck!

This is a great thread and very good information here. Lac98, thanks for the links. That will be very useful for any of us who are looking and have pets like me. It's truly a huge issue with owning a dog these days...or owning pets in general...sigh.
