I took a trip to the "Grotto" today. Really nice!

Cross your eyes for this one, and it will appear in 3D!

In all my days, I have never seen such a gigantic slug. It was awesome.

On an unrelated note, WES was filled to the brim today. I practically had to elbow my way on. Just one or two more people and it would have been standing room only. Perhaps ridership is increasing? (Hey, we can dream, can't we?)

Thanks for posting. I haven't been to the Grotto in years. It's a great place to slow down & smell the flowers.

Girl at PGE Park MAX station. Taken with my new Canon 50mm F 1.8 lens. It only cost $120, but it is as sharp as any L-Series lens. Great value.

I went out today and was treated to a rare sight. Actual Cumulus Congestus clouds. In Portland! Wow!

Sky photography has always been my favorite. I don't get to do much of it here because the skies are always either all blue or all gray. It's those precious few weeks during spring and fall when formations like this occur. I will have to get out and take more shots before it's too late.

Today I went to the far west side of Wilsonville and visited the infamous Living Enrichment Center. Really creepy and cool abandoned building. I am not sure if these belong here or not. They are not in Portland itself, but they are definitely in the Portland metro area. Two of the images might not be suitable for younger viewers, so I am posting links to them instead of actual images.

Quote:
Living Enrichment Center, often referred to as LEC, was a New Thought megachurch and retreat center in the U.S. state of Oregon. Originally founded in the Scholls, Oregon farmhouse of senior minister Mary Manin Morrissey in the mid-1970s, the church grew so exponentially that it moved to a 94,500 square foot (8,800 m²) building on a forested area of 95 acres (384,000 m²) in Wilsonville in 1992. Over the course of its existence, the congregation grew from less than a dozen to an estimated 4,000[1] making it the biggest New Thought church in the state. Living Enrichment Center also maintained an in-house bookstore, retreat center, cafe, kindergarten and elementary school, and an outreach television ministry. Living Enrichment Center closed in 2004 as a result of a $10.7 million financial scandal. Mary Manin Morrissey's husband Edward Morrissey pled guilty to money laundering and using church money for the personal expenses of himself and his wife. He was sentenced to two years in federal prison. He was released in early 2007.[2][3] Living Enrichment Center transitioned into New Thought Center for Spiritual Living.[4]
The first thing I saw upon entering the property. There was also a no trespassing sign with a lot of threats on it, but I ignored it and went in anyway:

The outside. I entered by hopping up on the ledge in the background:

Rubble'N'Junk:

Man...

Inside:

This room was very black except for a single shaft of sunlight illuminating this paint can lid:

Wow, this place is huge:

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs349.ash2/62912_434260591835_652111835_5670365_5793738_n.jpg (broken link)

The other side of the above room:

Down the hallway a little I found this. I wish I had brought along a flashlight:

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs313.ash2/59363_434251151835_652111835_5670151_995235_n.jpg (broken link)

The first thing I saw after going up the stairs. I also approve of this:

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs334.ash2/61395_434262341835_652111835_5670374_6145469_n.jpg (broken link)

BLAAARGH! This was also upstairs. It is also pretty cool:

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs660.snc4/60029_434260446835_652111835_5670364_4983033_n.jpg (broken link)

A long causeway from the main building to some other place. The other place passes a little too close for comfort to a residential area, so I didn't go down it and have them report me for trespassing. (Word has it that the neighbors are very protective this particular ruined building).

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs674.snc4/61409_434294551835_652111835_5670882_8194046_n.jpg (broken link)

Heading back downstairs, I learned that I would not be able to leave this place:

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs618.snc4/59871_434296006835_652111835_5670889_602907_n.jpg (broken link)

Then, I went down the hallway, turned right into the first door, and entered what was probably the creepiest part of the whole building, the kindergarten room:

I really don't know what to say about these next two:

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs707.snc4/62728_434257411835_652111835_5670270_6618060_n.jpg (broken link)
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs630.snc4/59016_434294186835_652111835_5670877_297494_n.jpg (broken link)

Gas mask face type thing:

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs327.ash2/60756_434263906835_652111835_5670385_3458238_n.jpg (broken link)

Silent hill?:

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs632.snc4/59278_434264126835_652111835_5670389_6551953_n.jpg (broken link)

I guess this explains all the strange sounds I kept hearing while walking around in there:

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs667.snc4/60756_434263911835_652111835_5670386_4776286_n.jpg (broken link)

And to top it all off, on the way out, I found this:

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs651.snc4/61145_434285611835_652111835_5670731_4605128_n.jpg (broken link)

All in all, I'd say that was a cool adventure. There were some extremely dark areas that I didn't feel quite comfortable venturing into without a flashlight and buddy, so I will have to come back some time and see what mysteries lurk in the deep places of this building.

Hello Portland! I love your city and pretty soon I'll be relocating there God willing (I'm not a christocrat btw). Portland has to be one of the most beautiful cities, not only in the United States, but in the world. Portlanders should feel a great sense of pride when it comes to their city's beauty. The people also seem very interesting. Down to earth and culturally progressive which is awesome by any measure. I was considering Seattle due to it's larger economy, but Portland stole the show for me. My question is as follows: While I love the hispter, hippie culture. I identify proudly with my Miami "Latino" heritage. One, what parts of town have more of a Latino flavor, population, etc, if any? .. and two, how are Hispanics generally perceived, regarded, treated and or included in the cities' panopoly of human makeup and in what aspects?

FelipeHayes; you should open a new thread for this. I almost never look at this sticky because it takes too long for my old computer to load the images.

FWIW, I just moved to Beaverton and enrolled my kids in school. Both their schools are about 40%-50% "hispanic" -- (my understanding is that the term "hispanic" also includes those who would consider themselves "latino", am I right?)
