I spend about $300 a month on groceries, with some organics. What helps me is to plan out ideas of what I want to make for the month, and stock up on the non fresh things at WinCo. WinCo is a no-frills grocery store, where you bag your own groceries. I don't trust their meats, and most of their produce isn't good, but you can save a bundle by stocking up on everything else there.

I love Trader Joe's. Don't know if they're in your area, but they have a lot of interesting food and wine for not much money.

The rest of my groceries I get at QFC (their Advantage card can help you save money), and some meat and produce at Zupan's or Whole Foods.

The $300 doesn't include cat food/litter, vitamins, restaurants or booze.
