But they are all over...especially around Portland. All you have to do is drive around and look for the tallest trees. Many are quite small yet as they are no older than the houses or property they were planted on. But they are there nonetheless. A good place to go look is the Portland Rhododendron Gardens or Eastmoreland Golf Course. But again they are all over in people's front yards.
A lot of those are Giant Sequoia (also redwoods), which is a favorite evergreen of mine.

The photo below was taken in Roseburg, Oregon. It seemed unique looking.

That is so cool. Almost reminds me of the game Zelda.

Are the redwoods in Humboldt so much bigger etc. than Brookings that Brookings redwoods would be disappointing? We're coming from Eugene and looks like 4 hours to Brookings and 6 to Humboldt and after redwoods hike, have to drive back to Otter Rock. Thanks for any and all honest opinions! 

Go to the California.
Any of Redwood Groves run by the State of CA, OR or NP is fine.
Jedediah Smith State Park near Crescent City is my recommendation. JS park is ,~30miles south of Brookings.
Because of the Chetco Bar fire near Brookings, I'd go to JS Redwoods. The wind is typically S->N so the area should be relatively smoke free. Conditions may vary.
Check road and park conditions.

A redwood grove is indeed a majestic wonder. It would turn you into a tree hugger, figuratively and literally.

I'm from the east coast and it seems like it would be a shame to miss out on the experience of magical redwoods.

All advice is welcomed. Thanks.
Don't know if it was stated but there is an old stage coach road you can drive thru in Jedediah Forest. Stop by the Forest station and they will tell you how to get there

You should definitely not miss the Redwoods, if you're in Oregon. I would stay in Brookings, a cute, coastal town roughly 10 miles from the California border. You will be 25 miles from the Jedediah Smith State and National park, which has wonderful trails and awe-inspiring trees. They are worth the drive for sure. And the Oregon coast is breathtaking as well. Catch some beautiful sunsets and eat some really fresh fish.

Crescent City might be marginally closer, but it's much more expensive due to Cali sales tax and I don't find it to be a particularly attractive town.

You don't have to travel all the way to Humbolt to be awestruck!

Eugene to the CA Redwoods to Otter Rock in a day? You could do it, but that's a lot of driving for the experience. You could get so much more without driving so far. There are very tall stands of old growth forest much closer and while not redwoods, still very impressive.
