Default Portland ranked third for greenest drivers

http://portland.bizjournals.com/port...3/daily22.html
Portland has the nation's third highest number of "greenest" drivers ranked by the number of fuel-efficient vehicles, miles driven and other criteria, according to a national magazine.

Seattle is ranked No. 1, followed by Burlington, Vt.

Seattle, Burlington and Portland each received the only A+ rankings.

Arlington, Texas, has the nation's least "green" drivers, according to the July/August issue of Men's Health magazine.

Receiving "F" grades were Arlington; Yonkers, N.Y.; El Paso, Texas; Riverside, Calif.; Birmingham, Ala.; Fort Worth, Texas and San Antonio.

I can't comment with any authority about any of the cities and their rankings but I do think that a huge component of achieving a high "green" score is having a comprehensive public transportation system like Portland has. I have to believe that the ones scoring low don't have any way to get around except for personal vehicles. I live in Houston and that is certainly the case here. We have a lovely (though tiny) rail system but it goes nowhere near the major concentrations of commuters so except for a few Park & Ride routes that take riders into the downtown and Medical Center business areas, everybody is pretty much stuck driving their own cars to work.
