Yes, believe it. The recording was over 100 degrees and 85 percent humidity or so. And you have to remember too Portland residents usually don't have airconditioning sometimes even fans! So you can imagine the complaints. It felt just like a humid day in chicago so I know humid when I say it was.

Those readings even made TX seem cool! I have been following the temperature/humidity readings for Phoenix, AZ and Portland OR area and comparing for the last several weeks and I don't recall Weather Channel reporting such high values for Portland but I take your word on it.
If it was indeed around 100 degrees with 80+ humidity (which is hard to believe for a day time), then it must have been awful indeed because during the mansoon season, it will be like 90 degrees to 105 degrees in Phoenix with approximately 40% (give and take 5%) and even that that would make most people feel miserable since it is usually no more than 15% humid most other times...

theres a freaky storm right now here in phoenix (10:23 pm)....YIKES the worlds coming to an end. Lightning about 8 strikes per second. WOW. I miss that slow cool drizzle of Portland. I miss 80 degree summers, and bitching about how hot it was (what a joke now).

I know as I am typing this I am also checking it out. All my windows open and I can feel a semi-humid cool breeze come in but when the freaky lightning strike I jump like a scared little school girl. Well, at least there is a good reason for my typos tonight! lol

I gotta admit, So Cal spoiled me quite a bit. Afte few Summers in So Cal, I was complaining about 85-90 degree days with 60%-65% humidity like it was really bad. I get used to almost all weather conditions fairly quickly, including the reall nice ones that turn me into a spoiled whiney brat!
I like the dry air in Phoenix/AZ but I have to admit, the 110+ days sometimes gets to me...and I don't think I am being a sissy.

Good God, around 11pm it was like the ending of the movie 'Poltergeist'.
In the morning I was checking the backyard to see if there were any coffins sticking half-way out.

The funny thing is that I was in San Diego for a week in early August and it was pretty damn humid most of the time I was there. True, the temp was only 75-80, but the humidity stayed around 65-70% the first few days. I was starting to get a little pissed off because I felt like I was lied to about the weather. The last two days, though, the mugginess dropped off and it was much better. Here in Austin, we have been around 20-30% humidity almost the entire summer (except lately), so I was used to not sweating.

The Portland you're describing is not the typical Portland most people see and enjoy. I don't know how you've managed to find what you've found but you might want to get out a map and check out the Pearl, NW 23rd, King's Hill, Washington Park, the SW and NW Hills, Multnomah Village, and then on the east side, Ladd's Addition, Sellwood, Lauralhurst, Mt Tabor, East and West Moreland, Alameda, NE Broadway, and many many other places. All are what you are looking for. Basically imagine visiting a city where you hang out on skid row because that's somehow what you've managed to do.
Incidentally Saturday Market will be moved soon. After you've seen Saturday Market you've seen every scuzzy person in Portland. That doesn't mean that all of Portland is like that. Perhaps stop somewhere and get information or a tourist map from someone so you can see other parts of Portland.
And if you're seeing trailer parks you're WAY WAY out in the middle of nowhere in what is called Felony flats for a reason. There are no trailer parks anywhere in close in Portland. It sounds like you were in the downtown core where the homeless services are hence a lot of homeless, and then WAY out in the outer Portland areas where people don't tend to live for a reason. How you managed to miss all the other parts of Portland is pretty amazing!

What is with the homeless in Portland? What is being done about it?
The cure is not to steer folks away from it. Its a problem that needs to be addressed. Anybody have any insight into plans for that?
