I am a labor and delivery nurse, wanting to relocate to Portland in the next year or so...
I'm wondering about the job market and wages for nurses in Portland. Does anyone have any recommendations for hospitals in the area?
I live about an hour North of San Francisco and my current wage is about $54/hr working the evening shift (3pm - 11:30 pm). In 2006 I made a little over $100K. My mortgage here is $400K for a 1300 sf 2 bed/1 ba bungalow on a small lot. I know the wages are lower in Portland. I'm trying to figure out how much lower the cost of living will be in relationship to the wages.
Thank you,
Stacy

I don't know much about nursing jobs, but there are a number of good hospitals in the Portland area: Legacy Emanuel Hospital (level 1 trauma center with neonatal icu and burn unit), OHSU hospital (also level 1 trauma center and a teaching hospital), Providence St. Vincent Medical Center (specialists in pediatric emegency medicine). Hospitals that I've heard good things about with regard to their "birthing centers" are: Providence St. Vincent, Legacy Emanuel, Legacy Meridian Park and Willamette Falls Hospital. There are a number of other hospitals in the area that I don't know as much about, but which may have other great programs. As for cost of living, the median home price within Portland's city limits the last 3 months was $262,000. The median home price throughout Portland and its surrounding cities and suburbs in December 2006 was $270,500. I hope this helps. Best of luck!
