Default question about an area that we are looking into?

We are looking into an apartment near SE 174th & SE Naegeli Dr. the name of the apartments is Meadowland Apartments.. Anyone have any feed back on this place and area? We can't drive by due to the fact we are not there yet.. As always your input would be deeply appreciated!

You can in fact do a very efficient drive by using Google Maps' "street view". The location and type of dwelling (complex) would put me off. Why this particular place? A drive by cannot tell you if a dysfunctional family is living next door. Of course you can have dysfunctional neighbors in Goose Hollow (no offense Oldtintype) but the probabability increases in direct proportion to your distance from the City Center. Be very suspicious of a property manager who will sign you up sight unseen. You want to come to Portland without anything signed for and rough it in a Motel for a week or few(!). Trust me on this. You will find a place once you are able to actually see them and make an informed decision.

They had a special on Craigslist that is why I thought I would check into it.. But if that area is not real good then I wont mess with it.. Thank you for the reply.. Scott Mountain by the Brook what is your input on that complex? I can have my n laws look at a place for us so it wont be a total sight unseen.. I truly dont like the idea of having to stay in a motel or with the n laws but it may turn out that way.. We are leaving our state on a Monday and should arrive in Portland on Weds. im sure we will have our fill of motel's ya know what i mean?

That area is about as far east as you can get and still be in Portland. I don't know the specific streets but unless you're looking to be miles and miles away from downtown I'd avoid it. Outer SE Powell (which is where it is) can be really unpleasant.

I no longer live in Goose Hollow. I'm now in the Kerns area and liking it!

What oldtintype isn't realizing is that housing is expensive and some of us have to live in non-yuppy areas if we want to get by with our paycheck. Yeah the outer east side is nothing like yuppy Laurelhurst, Hawthorne, etc. but it can be very affordable and pleasant if you find a good neighborhood.

Actually I do realize that. I don't live in a yuppie apartment and I'm not rich (far from it). You probably bring home more than we do. But I also know that commuting is expensive and having to DRIVE everywhere costs a lot of money. I recently moved to an apartment in close in SE and found a property management company that has great rents. I can't list it on here obviously but the rents aren't any higher than they are in outer SE, the trade off is we live in a building that was built in the 70s. If people WANT to live out in the middle of no where in terms of public transport and walking to stores then, great. But they should be made aware that their transportation costs in both time and money will be greatly increased, which they may not be aware of if they're coming from outside the area.

Congrats! Sorry Oldintype for being hard on you. I really do think that some of the widespread stereotypes do need to change around here since they are decades old. Know what I mean?
