Having lived in Alaska and gone to college in Minnesota, trust me, Portland has virtually NO mosquito problem! More likely you'll have to deal with the occasional yellow-jacket or wasp nest being built in your yard or under the eaves of your house.

No kidding! I just got back from North Carolina and have a couple of red, raised, ooozy bites on my shin. Today I went to the dermatologist for my annual skin check and those spots got his attention right away -- until I explained what they were.

I've lived in Portland 21 years and have rarely been bitten by mosquitos.

We've seen a lot of spiders though. They seem to be everywhere... or at least it seems from the cobwebs that we find often.

Bless those spiders, but not in my house or where I walk. Nature's flying insect control.

in 2004, we went rafting in the Deshutes, near Maupin, and there were clouds of mosquitoes, tons and tons of them. I can't believe how many there are, and this is at noon. I've rafted there 4-5 times and never seen anything like it. I got a can of spray, but we still got eaten alive. Once we got to the middle of the river, it was better, but anytime you get near the bank, yowza...

In portland, not many skeeters.
