Default Visiting Portland

The hubby and I will be visiting Portland for a wedding on July 3rd. We want to spend a few extra days there to visit the city~~I drove through once on my way to Seattle and I was mesmerized. So, my questions are: 1.) What must we see/do? 2.) Where must we eat? 3.) Where should we stay? (I am thinking downtown b/c I generally love downtowns. We would need a 3 star hotel too 4.) What do we do on the 4th of July?

I am so looking forward to this trip. The wedding is at the Edgefield. We'll be staying there for the night of the wedding, but think we'd like to be downtown after.

Thanks so much for your responses.

DocOregon is on a distinguished road
If you like blues, that's the weekend of the Waterfront Blues Festival in downtown Portland: July 4-8 at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. On July 4, they also set off lots of fireworks over the river -- http://www.waterfrontbluesfest.com/

If you don't like blues, but you like fireworks, Fort Vancouver (just across the Columbia River in Washington) hosts one of the largest fireworks displays on the West Coast. Get more information here -- http://www.vancwa.com/4th_of_july.htm

Good luck!
