Leaving Colorado to move to Portland! (Gresham, Oregon City: apartment complex, live, costs)

Hello Everyone!!

My husband and I are planning to move to Portland in the middle of October or the beginning of November. I'm trying to find out if the job opportunity's are doing any better. Especially since he doesn't have a drivers license. We are also looking for decent housing, I don't want a commercial ran apartment complex or house. I have looked online like craigslist, and I can't find much.

I lived in Oregon City for about five years when I was younger and loved it, that's part of the reason I'm coming back. But I'm trying to have us both a job lined up before we get to Portland. Any suggestions on housing and jobs? Thanks for all your help.

I just moved from Denver to Portland, I I have to say jobs are doing better then Portland has been...but I don't think better then Colorado in general. It depends on what you do, like the medical industry (where I am) is doing well along with some tech start ups. Housing is pretty tight in the city, but gets lower priced as you move out to the burbs (beaverton, Gresham).

My suggestion is not to move out here without a position, or a good idea what positions are available (unless you're a nurse). If there's nothing posted for what you want to do, there still won't be when you move. Plus, it costs more out here...we have seen a 10-15% increase in costs outside of vehicle costs (we get a discounted bus program and use that). If you're here for a bit and don't have a job, those costs can really eat into your savings pretty quick.
