that would make perfect sense. many oregonians are former californians and if there is one thing a californian can't stand is another.

this is a good thread, do Oregonians hate Californians?
not so much anymore, but they sure used to. 1991 is when the big "California invasion" started and throughout the 90's is when all the local bitterness towards Californians came from. but once the internet came then people came from everywhere and the bitterness was towards everyone moving here not to just Californians.
I don't mean that to sound bad thats just the truth.

there is definite prejudice. it's probably the influx of CA residents in recent years - retirees and CA escapees wanting to make OR less green for their shopping malls

No, it's not true. If it were, then I'd have to hate myself, as I'm a transplant to California. I know! Who does that?

You can find this question on most every state forum on C-D. Does "(insert your state)" hate Californians? IMO it's more about do the "have nots" hate the "haves". I come from Oregon, born and raised, and I feel sorry for a lot of the Californians down here. Think of all the working class families (like myself) who will never have the opportunity to buy a home in CA. There state was overrun long before any of our states. I don't think one should blame someone for their geographical roots when greed is the real subject in all of these threads. Oregonians got greedy, and it's happening all over the country as we become more and more overpopulated. People will spread out, and there is always someone who will sell anything for money. Even their multiple generation family property. This subject will continue until this country finds balance between the working class and the wealthy.

Actually, if you go back and read the newspapers from the early 1850s, you'll find lots of Oregon vs. California complaints. So it's a deep-seated "tendency" to dislike Californians from way back. (Prejudice just sounds too severe these days...)

Holy cow, this parallels my thoughts on this! I've been blaming the cost of housing on greed more than anything else, esp. realtors.

Well said, JeremiahJohnson. I agree wholeheartedly.
I would never fault any person for wanting to make their lives better by moving. We all want to do that, even if it means moving to another state in order to have a home and be able to afford food and healthcare. Being working class myself, I certainly fall into this category. I love Oregon, but even in our faltering economy, I'm being priced out. So, maybe if I move to another state, those residents can start a thread about those 'danged Oregonians!'
Realtors are a symptom of our problem, I think. You can't really sell what people won't buy (I'm talking about the over-pricing of housing inventory). Although, things have changed quite a bit lately, haven't they?
It's every man for himself, as a way of life. Yes, there's a balance between working class and the wealthy, and I look forward to the day we find that. I'm still looking...
