More pros than society's failures comes to mind.

Decent new commercial architecture.

Aviation is hard to miss - Helicopter training.

Many business parks with professional services.

One side of town is better to live on than the other. Barely one hour from the ocean.

Just in case folks start implying that Hillsboro doesn't have upper income residents... Phil Knight has/had a Hillsboro address.

Heck, yes, it does! The Orenco area certainly doesn't serve the lower income. And there are some mighty upscale subdivisions and apartments north in northern Hillsboro. It isn't Beaverton. But, then, those two burbs have little in common, Period.

That's because the people up here are racists, despite all the fronts they put on and crow about diversity and tolerance. It's always been a white area, and they're scared that they might actually have to interact with minorities.

-Some of the most beautiful rural areas in the state are right outside of Hillsboro.
-Home of the Wash. County seat
-Major high tech presence (Intel + others)
-Vibrant/diverse economy due to the above
-Homes vary from $treet of dreams to older small homes.
-There are some heavily Hispanic parts of town but I'd never call them slums or high in crime. The Hispanics are generally friendly and just want to better their lives like everyone else. Hillsboro's crime rate is relatively low.
-Good access to MAX. Traffic is reasonable.
-Home prices are more affordable then Portland
-Easy drive to Portland or the coast.
-All the shopping you need
-Wash. County government isn't as screwed up as Mult. County

The Cactus Leaguer will become famous soon enoughThe Cactus Leaguer will become famous soon enough
I'm an Orenco Station guy in my 40's who grew up Beaverton and spent my 20's-early 30's in or near downtown (if that adds any perspective, I don't know).

-When I grew up, Hillsboro was a "hick town" that us "civilized suburban kids" from the Beaverton School District made fun of. There are still a few country folks left but not that many.
-Hillsboro has a downtown and a NW/NE/SW/SE, unlike Beaverton which is SW (as in SW Portland - there are some NW addresses around Bethany but I think that's all unincorporated city of PDX, Beaverton Schools). This really explains a lot, for better (downtown) and for worse (locking out Providence), in explaining Hillsboro versus Beaverton.
-Hillsboro is still growing quickly and will top 100k soon... with that many people you can find pretty much all socioeconomic classes.
-Since many of the MAX stops were undeveloped when light rail went in, it was easier for Hillsboro to build density and effective TOD's along the rail, compared to the Beaverton MAX stops which were already developed and auto-centric.
-Hillsboro is not very artsy compared to other 'burbs (probably because of all the high tech workers), but it is trying.
-That's about it, davefr pretty much nailed it.
