Snowboard / Ski Season.. and Distance from Portalnd to the slopes? (Portland: home, living in)

Something that I would see as a real positive for living in Portland would be that its near ski slopes and I presume that they have a long season during which they are open.. how far is it from Portland to the nearest ski slope and how long is the season? I apologize if this has been discussed before

Mt. Hood is about an hour away, but at times on the drive home there is some major traffic. Season is very long, into June.

I'd say the ski season on mount hood usually begins sometime in November. Last year I think it started in October since we had a lot of cold rain that month.

It usually lasts through the month of June and ends around early July. It changes from year to year of course but that's pretty much the normality here.
