Default Familiar with Forest Grove neighborhoods?

I plan to move to Forest Grove. I realize its a small town, but I'd like to learn more about the different areas and ask questions about the streets where I've found homes I'm interested in. I've read that maybe the east side nearest to Cornelius is not so desirable? Joseph Gale is a great elementary school? My kids are in college, but I wonder if then the Joseph Gale Elem. area is a nice neighborhood anyway. What about near Pacific Univ? I see some newer homes for sale on Green St/Green Ct., but in looking at googlemaps it looks like there is a junkyard next to it, between 21st and 22nd? What about the Dilley end of town? Anyway, you can see I have lots of specific questions, in case someone out there is familiar with the town. Thanks!

I've always liked the Old Town area. I don't think there is a junkyard there, I believe that's the recycling center.

The south part of town is older and has some really cool victorian homes and large trees. However if you want typical suburbs then go towards the NW end of town as if you're going to Gales Creek. Off to the North is a hill with some of the nicer FG surburb homes.

i agree with both posts above. I went to HS there, and my dad still lives there....i know they really love it.
what kind of house are you looking for? We came close to buying a cute older house there several years ago....over near old town. I love the old growth trees over there.. and the houses! Its a nice little town. my dad lives near Ace hardwear (by the end of town) in a typical suburb. They have good neighbors and not many complaints.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. So old town would be west/south of the college?

Scone: Aha, a recycling center is indeed preferable to a junkyard. :-)

I love Forest Grove and miss it like crazy. Maybe I'll end up back there one day. Every time I leave there I leave another piece of my heart behind. For now, L.A. will have to suffice.

Hi! I was born and raised in Forest Grove. I love it. I moved back into the house in "old town" that I grew up in when I was little, and it wasn't the same as when I was 9 years old. I still had the great neighbors I had when I was little, but the surrounding areas were scary. I didn't feel safe alone. So I moved to the North/West side of town just off Gales Creek hwy and I love it! I feel safe here and my neighbors are great. As for schools, I like Harvey Clarke because Ive heard its great. I went to Joseph Gale as a kid and I've heard its gone a little down hill. This is just what Ive heard so I dont really know. Dilley is great but very small. Great teachers I'm told. The areas around Forest Grove High school, the newer homes, as well as these surrounding areas off Gales Creek Hwy (Arbor Farms, Reuter Farms, Forest Gale Heights and the new Reinassance homes) Are all great choices for Forest Grove. Goodluck!
