Default Help - need job..

Hi,

I am helping my mother look for a job in the portland area. She is a waitress and has managed a bar. She just moved here and needs to find something fast. Any suggestions? Thanks. She lives near the airport and is using the transit system.

THANKS

She may want to try looking on Craig's List or the local paper. That would probably be her best way to see what is available out there.

If your Mom lives near the airport, I'm guessing she has fairly easy access to 82nd Avenue. There are multiple transit buses on 82nd that run 24 hours a day. It would be an easy shot for her to ride the bus straight down 82nd, which is bursting at the seams with restaurants and bars. Also, if she heads out east on Sandy Blvd (good transit availability) there are a lot of bars out that way.

Trader Joe's (the grocery store) just opened a store on SE 82nd Avenue at SE Johnson Creek. They advertised on Craigslist a week ago or so for help. Might be worth checking it out.

Good luck.

awesome, i will be sure to pass along those places to her. I am not sure if she has tried them yet or not. She has been trying a bunch of places. It takes time unfortunately. She does an application in a couple of places.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! For the help. I really would love for her to find a decent place to work.

Jan is on the money. Momma has to actually present herself for inspection and get in with the management. Phone just doesn't cut it in that industry. I'm not surprised about Steamers. We ate there the very first night we arrived in Portland as it was about the only thing around that looked halfway decent. We had a wonderful meal but I wondered out loud to my GF how they managed to keep the doors open. Sigh, the exact same thing is taking place in our chosen little corner of Hillsboro. When will people get it. If nice areas aren't abandoned and left for dead there won't be any need to gentrify years later when the realization dawns that "gee, what were we thinking' hits. Apologies for both the rant and the hijack but there was a little on topic content?

that's alright thanks. Yea my mom is going out and beating down the doors ***** as well. But as mom put it she has gotten most of her jobs by knowing someone who knows someone and I was hoping to find a person that might know of someone.

Yea its hard in this economy to make a business last. It breaks my heart to see the small businesses struggling while the chains continue to grow and make all of the american land scape look the same. People hate to try new things b/c they don't like to go outside of their comfort zone. I personally love trying locally owned restaurants and businesses.
