And the hairiest too. This morning on the bus I saw a man with long blond braids. I often see men of all ages with long pony tails too.

Default Beard confusion.

Why I ask, do so many people everywhere, confuse a Vandyke with a Goatee ? A Goatee is a "stand alone beard" with or without a mustache and a Vandyke is a Goatee connected to a mustache ? Is it an evolution of word meanings or is everyone seemingly ignorant to the traditional names of beards ? My question is not directed only to the folks living in Oregon, but to all reading on this thread. By the way I am rickers and I dwell on the Montana forum cuz that's where I'm at. Thanks in advance and here is a pic for you from my neck of the woods.

I'd bet Anchorage beats Portland in beards. They even have some sort of beard contest there every year.

I bet you're right. With the cold snap we're experiencing (which I'm sure is nothing compared to an Alaskan cold snap) I'd grow a beard. If I were the right gender. It's got to be a lot warmer.

I don't know the answer to your questions. Let's talk more about Portland (kidding). I think we should give ourselves another award....

Thought I'd say Hi. Nice picture. I visited the area around Philipsburg summer before last. I think it's called the Pintlar Valley? Loved it up around Alberton, too.

Bluesbabe, I agree with you on the long hair. I think it looks nice on men as long as it's well-groomed. And the wombat look is out for me, too!

I just switched from a Van Dyke to a short full beard. I think beards are becoming more popular everywhere.

Beards rock!
I definitely dig the look, and won't be complaining once I'm up there.

Clean cut preppy boys? Psshh!

It is no coincidence that Portland has (I believe) more brew pubs per capita than anywhere else (or maybe it is Oregon overall). There is a DIRECT correlation between the amount of brew pubs and a city's beardiness. This is in large part because EVERYONE who brews their own beer has a beard. If you ever meet a micro-brewer without a beard, it is either (1) a figment of your imagination, or (2) he just shaved and is starting a fresh beard at that very moment!!!
