A lame blame game?
Sorry, but this sounds like an incredibly small-minded discussion.
What exactly is an Oregonian? A Californian? I was born and raised in OR, lived for several years in CA, and expect to return to OR in the future. So what does that make me?
Who the hell cares where you are from if you are where you want to be? Dumb is dumb. Ignorance is clearly not contained by political or geographical borders.

I can see why people attribute bad attitudes to Cali, though it's unfounded. Just because you have such huge cities in there it's easy to find people from there, and because of such massive growth and prosperity in the post WW2 period.

Oregonians are people who live in Oregon. Californians live in California.
What does it make you? Someone who will (in the future), come to your senses. Kidding. just kidding!
Seriously, my only complaint regarding new residents, anywhere, is when they move somewhere new, and then start complaining because things aren't like they were wherever they came from. Everyplace is different, has its pluses and minuses. Deal with what is there, rather than complaining about what is not.

EnricoV...Well, in that case, it sounds like we are on the same page. I think what you describe is the Ugly American syndrome on a more localized scale. I completely agree. Where ever you go (at least by choice) embrace it for what it offers.

Will I always be an out of stater?
So I am moving to Oregon in March, not to retire, but to start my career. I guess this makes me a michigander (native to michigan). I am really hoping, after reading this forum, that I will not receive harsh attitudes from people because I am not "native", I was simply offered a job that I could not resist and cannot currently find in Michigan.
Is'nt it funny how some people will regard you as a non-local even though you will have lived in that place longer than in the said out of state place? This even happens city to city and neighborhood to neighborhood. Iv'e heard the jokes about needing a passport to enter california and Texas! Maybe we should all just stay where we were born, get rid of interstates, airplanes and cars etc. What is the big deal with state boundaries? Aren't we 'mostly' all from the same country?
I realize this issue is more about money but it just sounds silly to lump everyone from a state into one catagory. Guess its just an identity thing.

I don't get this "where would Oregon be without California's money?" argument. Now, I don't think anyone is referring to tourism dollars which is good for Oregon's economy. But so far as housing and such of course we'd be better off if they never drove up real estate. Yeah our house would be worth "less" but our money would BUY more also. And there are powers that be firmly rooted here now, that has changed many of the old lifestyles here and brought them more inline with CA. I'm sure automobile smog laws are from CA attitudes, hey a 15 year old truck isn't going to pass your tests, but what the hell are you doing driving something that old?! It must be paid for by now, go finance a shiny new one that cost almost as much as your house did, its the California way. How many have had conversations with Californians who are "surprised", when a crime happens here? "I thought this was Mayberry", "I thought this stuff only happens in CA and New York City". And that old pick-up is an eyesore, we need to change the city ordinances on whats allowed to be parked in your driveway, hey don't be pissed at me just keep it IN the garage. "don't worry sweetie, I know whats best for you soon we'll have this state brought up to our higher standards".

Those are soon to be OUR tests, as the spineless 'other' left states (OR & WA) are going CARB... so that in 20 yrs we can improve the emissions, to what we could do tomorrow with properly allocated clean fuels and necessary conservation... oh... CARB will also bring 10,000 new gov jobs to the PNW.. Perfect; we sure need to pay for another 'agency' to boss us around
wonderful... just like CA, we can stand in line for Fed handouts cuz we 'overgrew' our budget.

And you know how several people are going to answer this:
"How do you know Sunwest isn't owned by Californians"
