We are packed and ready to go. My son who uses a wheelchair feel in love with the accessibility in and around Portland. The Tri-met especially. I am looking for an apt. accessible, near the MAX, and a good neighborhood.
He is bringing his job with him and me to help him in his needs.
Any and all advice is welcomed.

I would look to the west of Portland. As the MAX line extended out towards Hillsboro, it seems that a lot of new development has built up around it. You might find some good housing right at or very near a MAX stop.

The same is true to the east, but I'd say it's a bit higher crime --and "lower rent"-- out that way. I'd worry a bit at lingering at transit stops, though you pretty much have to be vigilant everywhere.

Hi, due to current medical issues my hubby can't drive for at least 6 mos. So we too wanted to be close to a MAX station. We found a great 2 bdrm for $675 in Beaverton (6 mo lease) just steps from a MAX station. I believe they still have some units available. DM me if you'd like more info.

I spent most of my life in Southern California and currently live in Seattle. I just wanted to say that based on my regular visits to Portland, I'd be hard pressed to think of a city more conducive to living in for someone who is disabled. The MAX transit is all readily accessible by wheelchair (no lifts necessary like for buses) and the city seems aggressively planned with the disabled in mind (ramps are everywhere in lieu of or in addition to stairs). Even the terrain of the city, generally flat with few hills in the city proper is very wheelchair friendly. I would definitely recommend living somewhere fairly close-in and near the MAX such as NW quadrant, not necessarily Pearl dist. but somewhere in the vicinity. I think your son has chosen the right place to live.

Contact Station Place, a Portland Housing Authority building, in NW Portland. They have some two bedroom apartments.

Default Thanks for all the help.

This is great. I have more to work with now. Thanks for all of your suggestions.
-Aliens- did you receive my message? I haven't heard from you and now I am worried that maybe my DM didn't go thru? I sure would like to know the name of the complex you mentioned.
