Default Looking for month to month rental.

We sold our house in NoVa. Right now staying in Va Beach for a couple of months. When we are ready we will drive out to Portland.

Since Holiday Inn Express is not interested in a long term deal with us, we decided to look elsewhere. We prefer month to month for a while, until we figure out where we would like to purchase land/house.

While searching the net, I came across Portland Hawthorne Guesthouse in SE.

Is that in a decent place/area?

What else would you recommend? (On Craigslist we have seen many options for renting/subleting, but I would like to get your opinions).

Thanks very much.

PS: We don't have to work until we settle, so we are pretty flexable. We don't drink/smoke. Looking to spend under $1500 a month. All we will have is what will fit in our minivan, which means that we don't need a big house. More like a condo.

Thanks again for any info.

We can't wait to start living in Oregon.

It is more difficult to find a place that will give you a lease than a month-to-month rental. You will have no trouble finding one of those. The Hawthorne area is a great place. The guesthouse if it is the one I think it is, is a hostel that is very nice.

Do not wait until you "settle" before you look for work or you will be living in that minivan a good long time.

I had a similar situation, waiting for a house to become available. I stayed at a Shilo Inn, actually had an apartment attached. I think was approximately $1800/month, but had everything furnished, dishes, linens, washer/dryer, etc. They were very accommodating and did decrease the actual cost because I stayed several months with them.

Also found several places that were nice on Craig's List in Portland area willing to rent month to month. Good luck in your venture!

There's a really nasty weekly stay rental called the *Portland Pensione.* This place is great because you will be highly motivated to find a place and get out of there ASAP! If you need to you can stay as long as you want. The druggies the next room over won't bother you much as long as you keep giving them change every time you go to your car.

If you don't want to get too comfy and don't mind finding pube hairs and used condoms in your room. Assuming you love the smell of years of stale cigarette smoke in your *non-smoking* room, then this is the place for you!

This will cost approx $980 a month.
