I never said Portland was a bad place. I'm loving it here. And I moved here not expecting it to be some perfect mecca, but rather a growing and learning experience, and part of my journey of life. Every place has "a few idiots" and I'm fully aware of that. I'm just saying that a lot of people have a particularly self-righteous view that Portland is the ideal picture of "tolerance" and inclusiveness. I just find people saying "we won't tolerate you being intolerant" to be funny, that was the original point of my post.

Here it seems you have to be an eco-friendly, local buying, small business supporting, alternative religion practicing hippie crazy. It's become the same, if one doesn't think the same then the person is the enemy...and the anger and extreme behavor by the radical elements is the same.

I lived in Texas for many years and never saw the "1950's life style protesting crazies", in fact the only protest I ever saw was illegals wanting amnesty but I was not here long before I ran into protests pushing an alternative agenda. Portland does seem to embrace a far right point of view and a consevative must simply be careful to avoid conflict.

In my experience unless you go looking for this kind of mentality you don't find it. It's perfectly easy to not hang out in places where the intolerant crowd exists, and even passing through I've never had so much as a comment. It goes both ways--you can find some pretty conservative and rude people around as well who think their opinion is the only one. The door swings both ways. I find it amusing that people find it so incredibly horrific when "liberals" act this way but it's considered "normal" when conservatives do. There are idiots in all walks of life and it's very easy to avoid them. The majority of people in Portland, liberal or not, have no interest in harassing others for their beliefs.

But aren't you aware that liberals are incessantly reminding everybody that they are the beacons of tolerance and open mindedness and that conservatives are just the opposite???

Of course, right after they put a spike in a tree for the loggers to find, or lock themselves to a meat packing plant or an army recruiting station. Find love and peace by hating the conservatives and republicans, which would be anyone not agreeing with the radicals.

As Ted Turner was portrayed in the second season of Robot Chicken "Save the planet or I'll *****ng kill you".

Actually I think maybe 10 percent of the "liberals" do that. Just like the radical right--the more obnoxious the more it's talked about.

Maybe 5%. It should be about economic and social justice, not snail darters.

America in the main is overwhelmingly center-right. Places like San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, NYC and Boston are the anomalies.

I am an omnivore who enjoys what I consider to be a balanced and reasonably healthy diet. I would never presume to tell someone else what to eat any more than I'd suggest what religion to practice. Why do some feel so compelled to proselytize? If they made their own choice, why do they not want me to make my own?

Where's the independent studies data? Again, if you are not just stroking your self-righteousness then lets see the proof.

Someone tell me what this argument about meat vs vegan has to do with Portland being liberal?
