Portland quality of life .
You got a point Enrico. I took my daughter to a small Swedish festival in Chicago 2 yrs ago. The Swedes WERE here 90 yrs ago but the event only had a small stage with girls dancing in blue and white costumes, and only 2 Swedish shops. The day was spoiled with men dressed in black with chains holding hands in public. Do what one wants within reason in private bark at the moon whatever. There should also be a dress code in public, not dressing like Ben Laden, IT IS OFFENSIVE ! No pajama bottoms either. Us clean upgrade desiring morally correct people should not be persecuted without moving to Alaska. I am not a baptist if you're thinking that. My wife tells me of the equality that was the USSR us Americans were never told of.

LOL, thats funny cause most of Portland is very white.
I personally have never heard anything racist from anyone in Lake Oswego. Most people I met that live here chose Lake Oswego for the excellent schools, more suburban feel (yes many people prefer suburbs to living in a city), lower crime, etc.
Most of the neighborhoods in Portland that are considered most desirable for families are also very white, and have expensive real estate, so that is not the real reason Lake Oswego is despised by the typical Portlander.
I think it has more to do with politics, economics, and location . Lake Oswego is considered "Republican", even though its closer to a 50/50 split if you look at the last few elections, but I guess anything less than 70% Democratic votes is considered "conservative" by Portland standards Lake Oswego residents have higher average income than Portland, so I think there is some of the liberal wealth envy and hatred of "the rich" at play. Finally there is the anti-suburb bias that most Portlanders have, they just cannot imagine why anyone wouldn't want to live in the city.
Anyway, no place is perfect for everyone.

Lake Oswego. Maybe you all are right ?
I am not of the priveliged class ,just a decent guy wanting a good place to live with our daughter. I get accused of being racist when I speak about a low crime area. I do myresearch on Sperling's and Great Schools. We all know this country is NOT as good as it used to be. I once read the "Golden years" were the late '50's. I better watch my words or get a reprimand notice. I read about the education avenues you have out there that we do not here around Chicago, unless you drive 30 miles. I saw "Saturday School" or something like this, online, I know where the top schools are, the wineries. You can go to Vancouver close by. Chicago has too many of the people one does not want to be around with one's family. Yeah, the bars scene is great for the under 35 group, but The taste of Chicago is 90 degrees, stinky overpriced food, 100k plus sweaty people with gangs. That is what is printed in the Chi paper in July. Not my idea of fun. People in our store tonight looked like the one's the army is shooting at on the news, all in black, the slavemaster alongside. How can one feel good ? I am taking my daughter by the lake tomorrow to see the boats and carnival. Enjoy your weekend out there.

Why dont you take a trip out to Portland to see it for yourself? I will tell you what I observed as an outsider of the downtown areas: An incredibly beautiful city with a walkable downtown. Lots of diverse and good restaurants of all cultures. Lush green hills surrounding the city. Driving around these hills above the city was a neat experience. The parks looked like a great place to explore with your kids and/or dog.
PDX struck me as a socially liberal city. There were homosexual men and women walking around the streets hand in hand. There were hippie-like types, dressed right out of the 70's. I noticed a huge homeless population. I was stopped numerous times by young people asking for money. Although most of the city appeared caucasian, I have a feeling that Portlanders welcome all races and ethnicities. I would not be suprised that when the economy improves, Portland will host a larger share of other cultures and races, including Muslim.
One thing I got out of PDX was that there is a real sense of community and pride in the city. I could see why. I absolutely loved it.

You post the GOOD side of Portland Rockybird.
Nice post ! To many times the negatives are posted here by the KIDS. I can tell by thier choice of words (pull my chain). They will grow up later! I like coffee houses and( I saw someplace online Rasputin's Coffee House) along with others. You have the Chinese and Japanese Gardens to drink tea. Our Chinatown is small and dirty with only a few clean places. If guys walk around holding hands it's o.k. just stay 100 yds away. The caucasian posting by you is WHY I look at the Portland area. Again I only use stats from online. I find slavery disgusting as I posted, I saw it at the store last night ( no one wants to do anything) that's the norm here. Might I ask , Why doesn't the authority move the street people out ! It was done here ! The city just used eminent domain ! They could be housed in Burns, Oregon or somewhere. The homeless could pick up trash. Nothing politically wrong about that. Enjoy your day.

From what I've read, you don't make enough money to live in Lake O. You certainly don't have enough brains.
Ever been to Burns, Oregon? Didn't think so.
Stay where you're at, please.
edited...I take that back. please move to Lake O right away. Get a house that you can't afford and count on a job that doesn't exist.
In a couple of months I'll buy you and your family bus tickets to Burns provided you spend about a week picking up trash.
By the way, I'm no "kid"; just someone fairly close to you in age and I'm disgusted with your posts.

I guess you dont see my point. If you move to PDX, you would be better off to be more accepting of people who are not like you, otherwise I dont think you would be happy there. At the very least, you would be advised to keep any negative thoughts towards people you disapprove of to yourself.
