Thumbs up Areas of Portland and apartments.

At first I was thinking about moving to Beaverton or Hillsboro,. but now somebody in the Oregon forum convinced me that Portland was much better. I would like to know what part of the city is good and what are some good and affordable apartments for a family of three, with a 3yo.

First off, congratulations on making the decisions against Beaverton/Hillsborough! Although fine suburbs, by living out there you would miss out on what most people want to live in Portland for!
In Portland itself there are so many choices, each area has its own neighborhood and its own feel. What type of place would you like to live in? Urban condo steps from the art gallery & coffee shop or a 3 bedroom house with room for a garden?
If you can get a copy of this month’s Portland Monthly magazine http://www.portlandmonthlymag.com/ there is some good neighborhood info in it, or check out http://www.movingtoportland.net/index.html
Scroll down the left side under “places to live in the city”. Some information looks to be a little outdated (especially the home prices!), but will still give you a general idea of some of the different neighborhoods.

Thanks, dealanloo! Those are two TERRIFIC links. I downloaded the neighborhood map and bookmarked the "moving" site. Fortunate for me that the Portland mag ran the R.E. article. I'm looking for a place for my grandson and a buddy (ages 30 + 40), with a part time room for myself (I'm 65). Any suggestions on specific areas. They're both artists, one a painter, the other a musician.
