I wish I knew if anyone actually took the advice.

It doesn't help that Portland has the best services for the unfortunate in the country...if I had enough for a bus ticket, I would take it out here. Not that it's bad to help some one with a hand up to start working again if they had a rough time of it...but i think a good number of people really abuse it. Besides the usually weirdos I've been starting to see homeless "Families" running around, obviously not interested in working but just begging for money...usually young, heavily inked, heavily pierced, (so far) walk back to their group after I refuse them money and start talking about how they are going to score.

With the economy so bad and with relatively dim prospects, there are scores of homeless and Obabavilles are springing up around the nation. It remains to be seen if our move to a national socialism will cure those ills or not.

I remain optomistic for the long term.
