Real-estate agent recommendations for Portland area
Could anyone please provide a recommendation for a real-estate agent that you used to purchase a house in the Portland area within the last 12 months?
What was your experience with the agent? Would you use them again?
I am interested in relocating to the Portland area from California within the next 6 months.
Thanks for the help.

I have another recommendation if you'd like to DM me. But sounds like you're getting a couple of good suggestions here. Good luck in your search.

John L Scott has a great public website, it marks homes for sale meeting basic criteria on a map. You can click on the icon to see photos and description, includes all on the multiple listing service. This works well if you know the neighborhood you are interested in - you can draw a loop around it, save your searches and have it e-mail you new listings within your circle. In no way does it replace a realtor as the factors you can screen for are hardly inclusive.

John L is good but so are ReMax, Windermere and Realty Trust. Go with an agent you feel comfortable with - more than the company. All have really concientious agents that will work for you. I would give you my e-mail but too many people might figure out who it is. Anyway we could do it privately and I would be happy to since I know and work with many of them.

I don't know the poster above BUT the selection of a home inspector is as important as that of a realtor, IMHO. A home inspection is very important for new construction too.
We just put our home on the market in a different community. We interviewed several Realtors and selected one with 30 years experience and a record of selling homes. As a condition of accepting our listing he required an inspection by the toughest home inspector in the area. He said that an inspection facilitates the process once we have an acceptable offer. The worst our inspector could find were two little leaks in the propane piping which were doubtless there when the home was constructed, easily remedied by a plumber. Will it make a difference in selling close to our asking price? Who knows. All I can say is that early in this listing process the Realtor said he would be delighted if 35 showed for the Realtor open house, I understand that the head count exceeded 60.

What is a DM? I had replied to this poster with a recommendation for the real estate agent that I just used. How is that different from what others posted? Thanks.

Click on a poster's name. A box will drop down. Click on the part that says Send a Direct Message to [whomever]. Another box will open which is self-explanatory and in which you can type your message.
That Mod is not our usual Mod, so you'll probably have to send them a DM to get an answer. The Oregon Moderator is Cornerguy1.

I would imagine that your post was deleted because this site's Terms of Service (TOS) doesn't permit members with less than 10 posts to offer recommendations.
The moderator was suggesting an alternate way for you offer your recommendation.
As mentioned above, DM stands for Direct Message which can be accessed through the hyperlink in the upper right corner of your screen just under your user name. The DM system works like a conventional email: type the recipients name into the message form and add your comments in the body of the message.
