City Girl from Ca. looking for a good place to live
My boyfriend are in our early twenties, have two dogs, as well as a little one on the way. We have always lived in the Orange County, Ca. area. We are looking to relocate to a more "homely" environment. We can not afford to live in California and would rather find a different state to live in. I have really enjoyed Olympia, Wa. but my beloved would rather not move there. Is there a town similar to this in Oregon? We would like to find a home that has around an acre+ land for our dogs to run, a good school environment and possibly an MMA training facility ((due to my boyfriend being a new up and commer in the MMA industry)). Please any help would be greatfull!

Are you aware of the high unemployment rate here in Oregon? It would be pretty risky for you to move without jobs lined up. You could probably find a place to live like you describe, but what it will cost will vary.
What is an MMA? Does it pay well? Is there a demand for them? Seriously, do your research before moving. You could find yourselves without employment and no place to live.

I don't know the Stats but there are many MMA studios and the like that have closed their doors in the past couple of years. With times as bad as they are here, it could be because people are not putting their money into this type of activity. I don't see any of those that were functioning a year ago. Maybe if your guy started his own business he would make it but it would be difficult as would any other business.
You don't mention your profession. Do you have skills that would support the two of you? You won't find the cost of living much less here than in California if you don't have good stable jobs. Keep in mind too that the jobs that pay the least requiring the amount of least skill are the most difficult to come by.

To my knowledge it means Mixed Marshal Arts unless there is another meaning the OP is using it to describe something else. I have a friend who is a black belt and I have heard him use this term many times. He is now a veterinary assistant because he could not make a living teaching the Martial Arts.

Thank you! It was driving me crazy. Is that a popular abbreviation? I had never heard of it.
In any case, I agree that this would be one of the first things folks would cut back on. Heckuva bad time make a living that way.

You got me curious so I Googled it and they have websites that use the term. I had heard my friend mention it so that's how I knew.
