Smile dog friendy Oregon vs Washington

Hi, we lived in Portland, OR last year and we made the big mistake to move to Tulsa, OK and now we want to move back to Oregon or Washington. Portland is a great town, but we went to Olympia and the Puget Sound area and we loved it very much. We have a Labrador-mix called Angel and we need a dog friendly house or apartment for rent, my husband need work as a fence installer and Angel needs a dog park not to far away. We loved the dog park at Steilacoom, that is the best dog park ever, but we also love the dog parks in Portland, especially the one at the River in Sellwood Park. So now we are relocating again, I would love to hear your imput, about the dog friendliness of this two wonderful states. And who can tell us, where our money would stretch more? In Portland my husband earned 16 dollar an hour and here in Tulsa he earns only 13 dollars an hour and even if the rents are cheaper here, we can hardly make it. Thank you so much for your input!

"Dog friendly" is a neighborhood/city issue. There is no way to generalize.

The unemployment rate in Oregon is very high, don't come without a job nailed.

The unemployment rate in Oregon was always high and my husband found a job as a fence installer.

I swear someone could come on this board and ask "is there a grocery store in the Hawthorne District?" and someone's answer would be ... "unemployment is so bad, there are no jobs whatsoever. You'd be foolish to move here."

Very funny EnricoV, but you are right. I wasn't asking about unemployment knowledge, but about opinion of dog friendliness. But the people mean well, I think.

We do mean well. Those of us who are older and have seen economic setbacks are very cautious. So many become enchanted with the scenery and the community that they overlook the fact that this is not nirvana. Disenchanted new arrivals break our hearts.

Hi OKSunny,

we are living in SE Portland now, in a duplex, with a small yard - my husband has do build to gates, so Angel, our Lab-mix can hang out there on her own and scare the sh.... out of the cats, that come there sometimes. We go to Lents Park nearly every day, because it is just 5 min. walk from our new home, and we love Sellwood Riverfront Park, we go there at least 2 or 3 times a week if possible, or to the 1000 acre park in Troutdale, a wonderful park for long walks or..... There is so much to do in and around Portland. We don't know, why we ever left this wonderful town and great state :-) See you soon in Portland?
