I came from Dallas, Texas and just got back a few days ago from a 2 week visit. The only thing I can say is that going there at this time of year with the soul draining heat was the ultimate confirmation and validation for why I moved to northwest. After the first 3 days I gradually started to feel more and more lifeless, and all enthusiasm and joy for life was being sucked out of me with every rising degree in the temperature.
What kind of life is that? From late May til late September, forget about going outside before 7 p.m, and I am talking 4 months non stop, no exceptions. All the while here in Oregon people are outside every minute of the day if they can enjoying the absolutely divine, nirvana like summer which we are gifted 3 to 4 months a year. While my friends were suffering and calling me up and complaining about the dantes inferno heat, I was riding 50 miles on my bike, a crisp 78 degrees with perfect blue skies and a wonderful breeze, taking in views of Mt Hood and the Columbia River and hiking at Mt. St Helens with Mt Rainier and Mt Adams staring at me in the distance. Where else can you do that?
Of course after a while I did start to get depressed, because I looked all around the sky and didnt see one single cloud. Then I looked at the 10 day forecast and saw that there is not one single drop of rain expected in the near future. This nearly drove me to despair and is causing me to count down the days til October when the puffy white clouds will move in and the rain drops will fall and Portland will return to its 8 month glory of greyness and drizzle. Only about 3 more months, the countdown is on!

I live in NC right now and I would gladly trade in these summer days with 90+ degree temps and 75%+ humidity for grey skies and rain in the fall/winter. I am like alot of you, I love the grey skies and mizzle and can't wait till the day I move the family out here!!

No kidding!! We are sweltering here in the Sunshine (ugh) State with its relentless oppressive heat and humidity, with heat indexes in the triple-digits (like right now as I type this). Our central AC died and we are limping through the summer with a couple of portable (not window) units, but it's tough going. I'm steadily working toward my goal of moving to Portland on May 1st of next year, and at this point I don't care if I ever see the sun again! Grr!

Wow, Neal2009 and I are definitely cut from the same cloth. While there is a period around January/February where I do get sick of the rain, as soon as the heat comes on full bore again I am thankful for living in a part of the U.S. with a pleasant cloud barrier for much of the year. Some of us just don't deal well with the heat. I grew up in Southern California and left in part to get away from the endless warm weather...if I'd grew up in Texas I would have done the same.

Dear Lord.
My Dad just called. I need to go to Austin for a few weeks. Flying down on July 4.
Just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in.

I like rain and clouds, within reason. Don't care for heavy thunderstorms but do like the drizzle.

LOL------tooooo funny!!
I'm with you all-I love being able to go outdoors all year long. I love the rain, the cold the clouds.......hate the heat/humidity/never ending sunshine I had when living in the deep south.
All my family and friends who live in Alabama,Ms. Ls., Ga Tx, Ar, and Ok curse me everytime I talk to them and they ask what the temps are here
I love the Pacific NW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hubby and I went on a trip to last November to Oregon. We thought we would go during the part of the year that people seem to talk about and try to avoid at all costs , being that we're thinking of moving there. We wanted to make our trip during that part of the year to see how it was and to see if we could or be able to live in to, I know we would love it during the summer/spring time so we decided to go during the winter. Well we only stayed for 10 days and we loved it there. The only adjustments were that we had to make is to be sure that we had all of our sightseeing done by 4-4:30pm because by 4:35pm it was total darkness...lol.
