Default Portland is wonderful

Portland (as much of the west coast) has such delicious fresh fruits and vegetables. And no sales tax is very nice too.

I actually wish that Oregon HAD a sales tax, and they could lower our income taxes. It sucks to have such a huge chunk taken out every check, and I almost feel like it incentivises shopping and spending over working hard and saving.

I wander what the the comparison would be to how much income tax is taken out of our check vs. How much extra we would spend with a sales tax. Would be actually save money with sales tax instead of a income tax?

In my calculations of what the costs to me would be, I examined both OR and WA. In the end, it turns out there is little difference in overall tax costs if one were to buy all one's normal stuff in WA. This includes the lower fed tax because of the higher OR income tax compared to the rather high WA sales tax but no income tax. The wild cards are all those hidden fees that are hard to find until you move to a new place or differences in property tax and assessments. Both OR and WA calculate out to be less of a tax bite than my current state of MD. For what it's worth...
