Rather than the Bite of Oregon, perhaps you'd like the Portland Farmer's Market on PSU's campus held on Saturdays. It is a fun local event with tons of food, local character, music, and will be WAY less crowded than any of those waterfront events. Hot Lips gets my vote for best pizza, and Rogue is a can't miss, whether for a quick bite to eat, the distillery tour (free samples!), or hanging out all night. Or just stroll down one of the many trendy neighborhood areas and bar hop, then catch the Max back home and you are living like a local!

if so, it sounds great! thanks also for the coffeehouse recommendation.

thanks also to seebee for the great tips.
Yes, that's it. Great vendors, right on the waterfront, good food, and music. Add a good cup of coffee into the mix, and you have the beginning of a great day of slacking off downtown. I highly recommend it. From there it's only a short walk to Stumptown Roaster's downtown location, but if you don't want to walk that far, the expresso cart at Saturday Market makes a pretty good quad iced mocha.

free concerts/performances at the Washington park rose garden from Aug 2 to 15. grab a bottle of wine, soft cheese, a nice baguette and enjoy.
starts at 6pm

apizza scholls is really good. If you go I would get the magarita. Hot lips is really good also and is much more convenient to grab a slice.

Check out the Roseland Theater, they get pretty good bands and the venue is small. We saw Candlebox there in April and the show was great. Also the Hawthorne Theatre in S.E. gets good bands and the ticket prices are reasonable. If you like karaoke The Galaxy on 9th and E. Burnside is a good place to go. If you're more into rock then Dante's right downtown on the west side is a good destination.
