Hola. I'll be visiting Portland in a couple weeks. I'm planning on bar hopping every night and need some tips on where the 20s/30s rock crowds hang out. Acid freaks, punks, jam band types, metalheads, assorted rockers, etc. I like a variety of venues but want to really see how cool Portland is at night. I can tolerate some amount of the skinny jean ironic hipster types also and realize that they often are drawn to the same types of venues. What say you folks?

try Dante's on burnside. that bar has lots of cool bands there at any given night. if you like rock and metal that should be the first place to go check out.

I thought a hippie bar was any decent sized grassy area where you could play Frisbee and hackie sack.

Yamhill Pub. More metal than hipster, hole in the wall downtown.

Check the music listings at Willamette Week | Monday, August 17th, 2009 and http://portlandmercury.com .

Off the top of my head: the Roseland Theater, Satyricon, Hawthorne Theater, Goodfoot Lounge.

Hey thanks. I'll check out Yamhill, Dante's and Goodfoot for sure. I've been on Portlandbarfly before and so far tonight have been reading for about an hour on there.
